The question of how we have to deal with the water-issue in the future will emerge ever more frequently. Especially, how a sound and sustainable way of  water storage can be combined with the desired space for living, working and recreation. In Dura Vermeer's vision thé answer is integrating water storage with sound environmental planning. We have translated this vision into the development of  the PCS floating homes and the PCS embankment homes.

Optimum use of space
Throughout the ages the Netherlands has learned to live with water. With its PCS embankment home Dura Vermeer now also offers the chance to live at the water's edge. In this way, the occupant can enjoy the water bordering  the house, while the space is used optimally. As the house is the boundary between the water and the dry hinterland, no dyke or embankment is needed anymore. On one side of the house the ground floor is watertight. Here the water is right up against it , sometimes a bit higher, sometimes  lower. This offers a lot of space for water storage and, thus, a whole new answer to an ever more pressing demand. Now, Dura Vermeer is combining its expertise in water storage with its unique PCS house building concept.

Houses as flood barriers
The PCS embankment homes are situated in the water and are watertight. The entrance is on the landward side and does not differ from an ordinary house. What is special is that on the ground floor the bedrooms are at water level, with a lantern directly facing the water. The living rooms, which are situated one floor up, have a sliding French window, giving access to the floating terrace. Thus, the water is always nearby, even if  the water level varies.

Apart from houses which can be placed on the water or at the edge of  the water, Dura Vermeer is also working on the development of other waterresistant types of houses, such as houses on piles, with a raised floor or houses that  are temporary  waterresistant.
