| COST - Urban FLood Management |
European platform for the exchange of expertise
The European project COST (European Cooperation in the field of Scientific and Technical Research) is an international platform where researchers and scientists exchange expertise and research data in a great number of fields. In the field of 'Transport and Urban Development' there is also a platform for the exchange of expertise about Urban Flood Management (UFM).
The aim of UFM is to find out in what ways high water can be incorporated as an integral factor in urban planning. The COST-project is partly financed by the European Commission.
Aim
The aims of the project are:
- to increase the relevant expertise needed to assess the consequences of possible urban flooding;
- to develop an integral approach;
- to promote and diffuse 'best practices' in UFM;
- to initiate national and European research & development projects;
- to raise the awareness of both government and stakeholders.
Phases
The project has three phases:
- inventory of relevant 'state-of-the-art' aspects in the field of UFM;
- analysis and integration;
- diffusing and consolidating expertise and experience.
Meetings
To make this possible the participants of the platform meet biannually and congresses and workshops are being organised.
Thirteen European countries are involved in this platform. Dura Vermeer Business Development supplies the chairman and looks after the coordination and support of this platform.
