First large-scale and commercial realisation of floating greenhouses
In the Zuidplaspolder a pilot project for floating greenhouse is to be realised, as an innovative pilot project for a sustainable development of glasshouses combined with water storage. A Steering Committee Floating Greenhouse Zuidplaspolder was installed by the Steering Committee triangle RZG Zuidplas in 2006 to implement this. Chairman of this Steering Committee is Mr Frans Tielrooij. On this Committee are representatives of the Province of South-Holland, Zevenhuizen-Moerkapelle City Council, the Dyke Board of Schieland and the Krimpenerwaard, the Agro- and Horticultural Organisation LTO/Glaskracht, the Building Fund AMB/Rabobank and Dura Vermeer. Dura Vermeer Business Development is responsible for the coordination of the process.
The idea is to plan an area where a pilot project floating greenhouse can be realised on a commercial basis. The Steering Committee is responsible for the choice of the location and the selection of the contractor. Apart from the development of a floating greenhouse the business case also comprises a research programme concerning the environmental effects on the large-scale covering of water. Initiator of this research programme is Consultancy and Engineering Firm Tauw.
It is expected that by the middle of 2008 there will be more clarity about the location, the contractor and the economic and public feasibility of this pilot project. After the showmodel Floating Greenhouse at the Flower Auction FloraHolland in Naaldwijk, this project is the next step in the development of floating greenhouses in the Netherlands.
