The question how we should handle water management issues in the future is more urgent than ever before. The main question is how to combine sound and sustainable water storage with the demands for living, working and recreational space. Dura Vermeer thinks the solution to this problem is to integrate water storage into sustainable spatial planning. We have translated this view into our PCS floating homes. With these homes, we are the first company able to build floating terraced houses: our solution to water management issues.
Optimum use of space
Over the years, the Dutch have learnt how to live with water, and with its PCS floating homes, Dura Vermeer now offers the opportunity to live on the water. The floating terraced houses provide a completely new solution to an ever-increasing demand for housing. Dura Vermeer combines its experience in building on the water with its unique PCS housing concept. This enables us to be the first to build floating terraced houses, which even have front and back gardens! Each housing unit consists of complete living facilities, two storeys as well as individual roofs, but combined with the PCS housing concept benefits: quick, flexible and very affordable.
Homes on a floating platform
PCS floating homes are built on horizontally fixed floating platforms. Since the platforms are not vertically fixed, the homes can follow water level fluctuations. The fact that the homes are supported by water also generates an additional economic effect. Depending on the water level fluctuations, associated infrastructure may also need to be constructed on floating platforms. Dura Vermeer has gained invaluable experience with respect to this type of building project when building a floating greenhouse for the FloraHolland flower auction in Naaldwijk in 2005 (for more information, please visit www.drijvendekas.nl).
